Immediate dental implants are implants that can be put into place in one appointment, allowing the patient to leave the same day with new, functional teeth.

The typical dental implant process can take up to six months.  First, extraction of the tooth is performed and bone grafting is done if there is a need for more bone material at the time.  After bone and gums heal, the dental implant is placed and time is given for the jawbone to grow around the implant.  When that step is complete, the patient returns to have the crown fitted onto the implant.

In some cases, immediate implants are possible, with the implants placed immediately after the tooth is extracted.

Factors to be Considered for Immediate Dental Implants

  • Periodontal (gum) health, and overall physical health
  • Bone density and amount of bone
  • Shape and type of gum
  • Implant design and type (not all implants can be immediately loaded)
  • Patient’s bite configuration
