Dr. Conlon was born in Detroit, Michigan and moved to the Chicago area before starting school and living there through high school. He attended Northwestern University on a wrestling scholarship. Dr. Conlon left Northwestern to continue his education at University of Illinois Medical Center, where he received his D.D.S. degree with honors. Dr. Conlon’s oral and maxillofacial surgery residency was completed at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Parkland Memorial Hospital and affiliated institutions, where he served as chief resident his last year.

Dr. Kurt E. Bruksch

Dr. Kurt E. Bruksch

Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Dr. Bruksch was raised in the Chicagoland area. He attended Northwestern University and was two-time All-Big Ten shortstop for the baseball team prior to receiving his dental and oral surgical training at University of Illinois at Chicago and University of Minnesota. He is Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and past president of the Illinois Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ISOMS). For many years, Dr. Bruksch was Chairman of the ISOMS Anesthesia Committee, overseeing anesthesia safety protocols in oral and maxillofacial surgical offices throughout the state.

Dr. Adam M. Ozment

Dr. Ozment was born in Cherry Point, North Carolina and raised in Plainfield, Indiana. His undergraduate studies were completed at Indiana University in Bloomington, where he received a B.S. in Biology. Dr. Ozment completed his dental undergraduate studies at Indiana University School of Dentistry. His oral and maxillofacial surgery residency was completed at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. Dr. Ozment joined the OMS practice shortly after completion of residency.

Dr. Richard was born and raised in Dearborn, Michigan. He attended the University of Michigan-Dearborn as an undergraduate and graduated from The University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Upon graduation from dental school, he served three years as a dental officer in the U.S. Navy. Dr. Richard completed a one year general practice residency at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton. Over the next two years he practiced general dentistry at various naval stations including Pt Mugu Naval Air Weapons Station in Oxnard, California and Roosevelt Roads Naval Base in Puerto Rico.

Dr. Schmidt is a Minnesota native from the Twin Cities area. He attended the University of Minnesota for both his undergraduate and dental school training. Following dental school, Dr. Schmidt completed a one year general practice residency (GPR) as well as his Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) in Virginia.

Dr. Matthew J. Heinz


Dr. Heinz is a Wisconsin native, born and raised in the Lake Geneva area. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Wisconsin–Madison before earning his dental degree from Columbia University in New York City. He went on to receive his medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where he also completed his general surgery internship and residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a candidate for board certification in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

History of Our Practice

Thomas G. Walsh, DDS first began seeing patients in 1963 and Dennis L. Johnson joined him in 1973. Known as “Walsh & Johnson”, the office was adjacent to the train car McDonald’s on Route 14.

In 1977 Crystal Lake Oral Surgery was incorporated and soon after, a dental specialty building for oral surgeons, periodontists, orthodontists and periodontists was built by the early 1980’s. In the mid-nineties, we became Crystal Lake Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and joining partners have included Cornielsen (1973), Skiba (1977), Conlon (1981), Bruksch (1986), Ozment (2001) and Richard (2006).

Our team of Board Certified/Board Eligible Doctors brings together decades of collective experience and dedication, providing our patients with trusted treatments in healthcare. We share a commitment to the community as the only oral surgeons on call at our local hospitals.
